Advance Care Planning 101
Join the Waterloo Hospice team, as they look at healthcare decision-making in Ontario and how Advance Care Planning conversations can help you and your loved ones. This session is all about how the law in Ontario sets up Substitute Decision Making, and what you need to know about choosing your Substitute Decision Maker (SDM). This is essential information you need to know about Advance Care Planning in Ontario.

Healing Little Hearts
Healing Little Hearts is a 7-week program for children ages 4-12 and their parents/caregivers. The goal of the program is to help children learn about grief and how to cope when someone in their life dies. It is a supportive space for children to share their experiences of death and grief with their peers. This program also features a peer-led group for parents and caregivers to help them understand how children mourn and how to help them express their feelings of loss.
This is a recurring event.

Dying To Know
An enlightening and thought-provoking experience featuring a variety of seminars on topics such as death, dying, estate planning, medical assistance in dying, and navigating grief.
They are thrilled to welcome award-winning journalist, scientist, physician, and author of the bestselling book “Death Interrupted”, Dr. Blair Bigham as the keynote. His book, “Death Interrupted”, will be available for purchase at the event.

Arts and Aging Day 2023
Together with Arts in Care Homes in the UK, Arts, and Aging Day Canada aims to use social media to highlight the amazing work being done in long-term care homes, retirement communities, seniors centers, and community organizations across the country.
We invite you to share your own home, community organization, and/or workplace’s art activities, creations, and experiences through social media. From choirs to poetry, visual arts to dance, we want to highlight all the ways that arts and creativity are engaging and supporting Canadian older adults and those who care for them, both in-person and virtually.

Advance Care Planning – What’s a DNR-C?
Ann Bettles, Supervisor, Community Paramedicine for the Region of Waterloo, will share her expertise and passion for community paramedicine. This two-hour in-person session will allow you to focus on what YOU need to know and understand about the “DNR-C” (“Do Not Resuscitate Confirmation form).
Ann will lead through a discussion of various scenarios that bring paramedics to your door to help us better understand the role of the paramedic and the importance of a correctly completed DNR-C form.

Education Session: Anticipatory Grief
Anticipatory grief refers to the feelings and emotions you have before a death or loss (of any kind) occurs. It is commonly experienced when there is a terminal diagnosis or when we know death is likely.

LIVING WITH LOSS
Living with Loss is a peer grief support group for adults 18+. This is a space to connect with others who are grieving a death of any kind.
You do not have to attend every group session. You are welcome to join at any point in your grief and attend for as long as you need the support.
